These are made in U.S.A., so much better quality than Chinese crap sold by DeWalt, Bosch and Milwaukee these days. If used correctly these should last a while (using oil/paste and correct techniques). Having said that, I once went through the whole set in less than a week due to not using cutting oil and not having proper tapping wrenches (my department was just starting out). After acquiring a new set I made sure to do things right this time and the set is still with me.

If you are only looking for a few particular sizes - I suggest taking a look at Guhring. Those are German made, they blow these out of the water, but are priced accordingly.

Be warned that the "from the manufacturer description" is out of date, Vermont American was a great American tool company that held out as long as they wanted, but have recently moved production to China, the description clearly says "made in USA" but these are from the new Chinese production. V/A has quite some nerve still naming their company Vermont "American" and Amazon needs to update the product description to reflect the new V/A product line.
As for the quality of the product. don't expect much as you did not pay much. But don't blame the Chinese manufacturer, V/A execs approved the poor quality of this set and said "yep that's fine, -- 80% profit right?"
I was hoping from the description that that this was some of the old production from a year or two ago, left over in stock, but alas I was sorely disappointed.
Bottom line, they will tap a hole, the case will be broken when it arrives, and the drills will dull in 25 holes, but it was $20, and all i wanted was a few holes tapped here and there.

I have had a few lesser expensive tap and die sets before, and none have looked as nice or performed as well as this one. I splurged on this set as opposed to the 76 piece set because this has many more drill bits and bit extractors. The quality in the materials and crafstmanship is top notch, it all came in a well constructed carrying case. This is a very comprehensive set that covers most any size you would ever need. I have a Honda motorcycle, Arctic Cat ATV, GM truck, and a VW Jetta and I double checked most all of the bolts on those vehicles and this kit has me pretty well covered. There is nothing worse than getting most of the way through a project and needing a tool to finish. We have all been there and this is the kit that will get you out of alot of jams with stripped bolt/nuts and broken off bolts.

I found Amazon's prices to be the best around, although sometimes they say something is "in stock" and it doesn't ship for a week. Is it in stock or is it not Amazon? overall Amazon has good prices and I have always gotten my items, it is just a bit of a shipping delay sometimes.

If you work with light gauge metal, especially subpanels in electrical boxes, you will fall over in amazement after using these.

The typical subpanel in the back of an electrical enclosure is the ideal application. I don't recommend pushing it beyond that thickness. These are expensive and will break easily in the wrong application.

The drill on a lower speed setting is recommended. Higher speeds might work on lighter gauge panels, but result in a higher risk of breaking a bit.

These are the best friend of the electrical panel builder, or industrial maintenance electrician who needs to mount devices in electrical panels. The time they save and the clean work they result in will make you a hero.

The quick change bit holder is a nice bonus. Many panels need multiple sized tapped holes in them.

Use them right and you will sing their praises. Use them wrong and you will be upset.
