Makita LXT drills and drivers a hard to beat. I contracted for years and use to use mostly DeWalt and Bosch. Four years ago it was time to replace my Bosch 18v NiCd drill and impact. I was pretty set on just getting another Bosch kit, but found a good deal on the Makita LXT combo. With moderately hard use, it has held up without issue every since. When I found this driver on sale for $99, I just couldn't pass.

This drill/driver provides adequate torque (300lb vs the typical 400-450lb of a comparable 18v/20v drill/driver), and it's sufficient for the homeowner who plans to use it quite sparingly. Despite B&D being not considered seriously among contractors, they actually build decent stuff- after all, they're the parent company of DeWalt. It's a decent value, but there's one glaring problem: It only includes ONE battery, which means your projects are forced to a screeching halt while you wait out the recharge period (unless you happen to have multiple drills, like me). This can be extremely frustrating.

This drill would be a good choice if you already own compatible BD batteries for other devices. If not, you may want to consider buying something with two batteries for just a few bucks more, like the Dewalt 18v driver for $99 or so.

If you consider that it's current price is only $59, it's a very good value- but there's one glaring problem. It only includes one battery, which means your projects are forced to a screeching halt while you wait out the recharge period (unless you happen to have multiple drills, like me). This can be extremely frustrating.

My advice would be to spend the extra $40 or so on something like the Dewalt 18v drill with two batteries- a workhorse that will let you drive screws all day, for just a few bucks more. However, if you're on a tight budget and only plan to use the drill every now and again, this is a great choice at $59, particularly considering that it includes a variety of useful bits, saving you even more money.

I bought this item for the total package. I already have firestorm drill with dual speeds and a removable chuck. It is a fantastic drill, but the batteries gave up the ghost long ago. After a lot of research I purchased another battery from Amazon (http://amzn.to/15YbOdp). This batter has been great, but it is $30 on its own. After completing a recent project, I realized I needed another drill and figured another battery couldn't hurt. When I saw this item for $50 with 2 batteries I figured I couldn't go wrong.

I was almost correct. The drill is pretty weak as expected, but it covers all of my needs. My only gripe, and the reason for my 4 star rating, is that the two included batteries are far lower capacity than the one I purchased before. That is expected given the price, but combined they weight about the same as my other battery. While I initiall thought this was a great deal I am still happy to report this is a good deal.
